Member’s Summer Sessions

Tuesday - Improvers Sessions

The Tuesday night sessions run from the Tues 23rd May 2017 and are are for:
- 23rd May to 20th June 2017 - Kayak Introductory Course (K1) & Canoe Introductory Course (C1) (at 6:00pm).
- 27th June onwards - Intermediate kayak/canoe paddlers then continue on a Tuesday to progress towards their club standard/2-star or just join us for a paddle.  Intermediate sessions start at 6:30pm unless otherwise notified.

Wednesday - Cub Standard/2-Star Plus Paddlers

The members club night is held every Wednesday evening running between April and September and is for more experienced paddlers (assessed as at least Club Standard or BCU 2-star) - both kayak and open boats. There is no formal instruction provided on Wednesdays and it is an opportunity for members to have a paddle out to sea, on the estuary or surf. Under 18 year old will be supervised by a coach. Members can learn further skills from the other paddlers such that they can progress to opportunities for further BCU skill assessments.

For 2017, Wednesday Club Nights will start on 19th April and end mid-September. Please arrive as close to 6:00pm ass you can so we can be on the water by 6:30 pm.

Remember you need to be at least Club Standard or 2-Star level to attend on Wednesdays; if in doubt please talk to any of the coaches.

Friday - Improvers Sessions

The Friday night sessions run from 26th May 2017 as follows:
- 26th May to 23rd June
- for Kayak Kayak Introductory Course (K2) (at 6.00pm).
- 30th June onwards - Intermediate kayak/canoe paddlers then continue on a Tuesday to progress towards their club standard/2-star or just join us for a paddle. Intermediate sessions start at 6:30pm unless otherwise notified.

What kit can I borrow for courses and sessions?

The club has a range of canoes and kayaks that can be borrowed for lessons, sessions and also trips. We also have cagoules, trousers, personal floatation aids, spray decks, helmets and paddles.

So if you do not have any equipment, just bring a spare set of suitable clothes (for getting wet) and you can normally borrow the rest. The club has showers and changing facilities so that you can change into your dry clothes after the session.

Canoes include various 1 to 4 person open canoes (e.g. Mad River, Venture, etc.).

Kayaks range from sea trip Dagger Stratos, through various general purpose kayaks to a number of smaller river running and playboats (e.g. Wavesport D65, Pyranha G3, GTX, Liquid Logic Lil Joe, Dagger Dynamo).

Over time, if you enjoy canoeing/ kayaking, we expect you will buy your own equipment and leave the club's equipment for other newer members... When you want to know what to buy, advice is contained on the Information page.
